CMOs Embracing Generative AI for Routine Tasks

According to PYMNTS Intelligence, approximately half of CMOs currently use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for routine tasks. However, a smaller percentage deploys GenAI for more challenging assignments.

Surveys from the 2024 CAIO Report reveal that 50% of CMOs employ GenAI for simple activities like drafting emails and data visualization. The report (link) draws insights from 60 CMOs representing U.S. companies earning at least $1 billion annually.

Integration Challenges and Unfamiliarity

Many CMOs face obstacles when integrating GenAI into existing systems. Around 42% of CMOs struggle with its unfamiliar capabilities, and another 42% report integration issues. Interestingly, these challenges are more pronounced in enterprises using GenAI for low-impact tasks (46%).

Overcoming these obstacles is crucial for maximizing GenAI’s potential in marketing efforts. Nearly all surveyed CMOs agree on the technology’s significance in enhancing their strategies.

High vs. Low-Impact Uses of GenAI

About 80% of CMOs believe GenAI significantly contributes to a positive customer experience, while 75% find it useful for market research and insights. Despite its potential, only a fraction utilize it for high-impact tasks.

High-impact CMOs use GenAI for complex tasks like marketing strategy and brand management. Low-and medium-impact users focus more on operational applications, such as customer experience monitoring.

Unlocking GenAI’s Full Potential

To harness GenAI’s full capabilities, CMOs must address integration challenges and invest in comprehensive training. This is particularly crucial for low-and medium-impact users to fully leverage GenAI across various marketing functions.

Training equips marketing teams with the knowledge to utilize GenAI effectively, ensuring businesses capitalize on the technology’s benefits.
