Reserva Fraccionaria y Bancos Centrales

In my prior blog “Reframing Data Management: Data Management 2.0”, I talked about the importance of transforming data management into a business strategy that supports the sharing, re-using and continuous refinement of the data and analytics assets to derive and drive new sources of customer, product, and operational value. If data is “the world’s most valuable resource”, then we must transform data management into an offensive, “data monetization” business strategy that proactively guides organizations in the application of their data to the business to drive quantifiable financial impact (Figure 1).

In this era of smartphones, we cannot deny that information technology plays a vital role in carrying out operations and making every segment effective. Be it government, sports, finance, education to entertainment, information technology tools, and tactics are being used in different ways revamping every sector to the next level. Talking about the application of information technology in the entertainment industry has come a long way in helping people stay entertained from anywhere at any time.  

From news updates, live streaming, web series, video upload to content creation entertainment industry has got everything from scratch for users to stay entertained. And this all has become possible with the innovation of several information technologies like mobile applications, clone applications, and other entertainment platforms which users can access from their mobile devices.


4 Ways of Monetization Your Data

Ugh.  “Data Monetization” … a term that seems to confuse so many folks (probably thanks to me).  When most folks hear the phrase “data monetization”, they immediately think of “selling” their data.  And while there are some situations in which some organizations can successfully sell their data, there are actually more powerful, more common, and less risky ways for ANY organization to monetize – or derive business / economics value – from their data.

I’ve thought of 4 ways that organizations could monetize their data, and there are probably more.  Let’s review them.

There are organizations whose business model is based on selling third-party data[1].  Nielsen, Acxiom, Experian, Equifax and CoreLogic are companies whose business is the acquisition, aggregation, packaging, marketing, and selling of third-party data.


Reframing Data Management:  Data Management 2.0

A cartoon making its way around social media asks the provocative question “Who wants clean data?” (Everyone raises their hands) and then asks, “Who wants to CLEAN the data?” (Nobody raises their hands).  I took the cartoon one step further (apology for my artistic skills) and asked, “Who wants to PAY for clean data?” and shows everyone running for the exits (Figure 1).

Why does everyone run for the exits when asked to pay for data quality, data governance, and data management?  Because we do a poor job of connecting high-quality, complete, enriched, granular, low-latency data to the sources of business and operational value creation.

Data is considered the world’s most valuable resource and providing compelling financial results to organizations focused on exploiting the economics of data and analytics (Figure 2).

  1. Availability of relevant data in good quantity and quality: The less I rant about it, the better.
  2. Need for multiple skills: Building an effective and monetizable AI model is not just the realm of a data scientist alone. It needs data engineering skills and domain knowledge also.
  3. The constant evolution of the ecosystem in terms of new techniques, approaches, methodologies, and tools

There is no easy way out to address the first challenge, at least not so far. So, let us brush that under the carpet for now.
