France: No Trust in Australia after Subs Deal Collapse

France said on Friday that it is unable to trust Australia in ongoing trade talks with the EU, following Canberra’s decision to forego a deal to buy French submarines in favor of US vessels.

European Affairs Minister Clement Beaune told France 24, “We’re having trade negotiations with Australia, and I don’t see how we can trust our Australian partners.”

What do you need to know?

EU’s Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell has earlier said that he understood France’s disappointment with regard to Australia’s cancellation of its major defense deal with Paris.

On his account, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called France a vital partner in the Indo-Pacific, adding that Washington wanted to find every opportunity to deepen the transatlantic cooperation in the region.

Victor Orbán: 'Migration Must Be Stopped"

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told a forum of leaders in Slovenia that “migration must be stopped” in order to preserve Europe’s cultural heritage.

Speaking during a roundtable discussion at the International Strategy Forum (BSF) in Bled, Orbán asserted that mass migration from Muslim countries was not a reasonable solution to the continent’s demographic decline.

“We do not need outsiders, because they are changing the composition of European societies, the cultural image of Europe, the Christian, family-based system,” Orbán said, noting that the overwhelming majority of migrants were Muslim.

Highlighting how mass migration leads to social dislocation, rising crime and terrorism, Orbán stated plainly, “migration must be stopped.”

Reports of rare body inflammation after Covid-19 vaccinations being reviewed by EU watchdog

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has announced it is reviewing a possible link to a rare inflammatory condition following the administration of coronavirus vaccines after a case was reported post Pfizer shot.
In a statement on Friday, the agency announced that an investigation is underway by its Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) to determine whether there is a risk of “multisystem inflammatory syndrome” (MIS) following inoculation against Covid-19.

The assessment follows after a 17-year-old boy in Denmark received a shot of Pfizer/BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine and subsequently complained of the condition. The EMA describes the syndrome as “a serious inflammatory condition affecting many parts of the body and symptoms can include tiredness, persistent severe fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, chest pain and difficulty breathing.”

A Message to the EU: Address the Real Public Health Crisis by Banning Glyphosate

Colin Todhunter & Rosemary Mason

The herbicide glyphosate – the most widely used herbicide on the planet – is authorised for use in the EU until December 2022. The EU is currently assessing whether its licence should be renewed.

Environmentalist and campaigner Dr Rosemary Mason has just written an open letter to the head of the Pesticides Unit at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), Jose Tarazona.

Mason wrote to Tarazona because the Rapporteur Member States (France, Hungary, the Netherlands and Sweden) tasked with risk assessing glyphosate and appointed by the European Commission in 2019, said on 21 June 2021 that there was no problem with glyphosate-based herbicides.

Debank the Right: Rebranded Brexit Party Has Bank Account Closed Down

Nigel Farage’s former Brexit Party, which has been rebranded following departure from the European Union as the Reform Party, has had its bank account shut down.

Metro Bank has informed the Reform UK by letter that “after careful consideration, we are unable to continue to act as your bankers”.

Former Member of European Parliament (MEP) and current Reform UK leader Richard Tice accused the bank of making the decision “based on politics” and told The Telegraphthat he fears for the viability of the party if they fail to secure alternative banking services.

Tice, who took over as leader of the party from Brexit champion Nigel Farage, said of Metro Bank’s decision: “It is absolutely outrageous.”
