In 1970s, US started war against the Drug Mafia all across the world. But in Latin American & in Southeast Asia US policy actually fueled the international drug trade.
In 1979 during Soviet Invasion the Opium production was 250 tons in Afghanistan. By 1999 while U.S hold the control in Afghanistan, the opium production increased to 4,600 tons annual.
In 2000, the Talibans imposed a ban on Opium nationwide, thereby cutting the to production to 185 tons.
In 2001 after US invasion, the Opium production erupted.
By 2017 the production of Opium increased to 9,000 tons annual.
Today 90% of the world’s heroin comes from opium cultivated in Afghanistan.
